Alien invasions certainly aren’t new in the gaming world. Nevertheless, SG Digital has managed to release something new under this theme with Invaders Megaways slot.
Based on WMS’ Invaders from the Planet Moolah and the 1978 video game Space Invaders, this slot introduces Big Time Gaming’s Megaways engine to the alien genre.
Invaders isn’t just another run-of-the-mill Megaways slot either. It provides up to 1 million ways to win along with a large number of features. You can read more about these features and everything else that Invaders Megaways offers throughout the following review.
Gameplay and Atmosphere
This game features 6 reels and 117,649 ways in the base game. Each reel contains between 2 and 7 symbols. With 7 symbols in every reel, you achieve 117,649 ways.
As mentioned above, though, the number of ways can grow to 1 million. The latter is possible for a specific feature that we’ll cover later.
Winning combinations form when three or more matching symbols land in adjacent reels. As is typical, all wins must start in the first reel and move to the right.
The background features a rural nighttime scene with houses, crop circles, and rocks. It’s also rounded to represent Earth, thus giving it a unique appearance from similar-themed games.
Upon triggering the bonus round, you visit the invaders’ home planet. This setting shows a rocky red landscape that’s much like Mars, only with strange cave-style structures rising from the ground.
Overall, Invaders Megaways has done a fantastic job on the background. Both settings are unique and offer high-quality graphics.
Invaders Megaways Max Win, Payouts and Symbols
Low-paying symbols include royals ranging from A through 9. Each one features a small alien-type embellishment.
Higher pays include a cow, ray-gun, alien, scientist, and game logo. The latter pays the most among this bunch at 4x your stake for six symbols.

Mythical Unicow
During the base game, the Unicow can randomly fly onto the grid and boost the symbols on each reel. The Mythical Unicow feature results in between 168,070 and 1 million ways.
Free Spins
You trigger free spins by landing 4+ scatters (marked “Bonus”) anywhere on the reels. You’ll receive 7, 12, or 15 free games for four, five, or six scatters, respectively.
Before this bonus starts, one of the five high-paying symbols is randomly picked to serve as the wild symbol. In addition to substituting for other symbols to form wins, the wild also features a special modifier.
The modifier varies based on the symbol that’s chosen to become the wild icon. Here’s a look at what’s available:
- Alien – Increases the number of symbols on its respective reel along with one of the adjacent reels. It also boosts the amount of ways, capping out at 1 million.
- Cow – Serves as 2 wild symbols.

- Scientist – Delivers a win multiplier, which doubles following every cascading payout. The multiplier begins at 2x and tops out at 256x.
You retrigger free spins when landing at least three scatters during the bonus. You’ll receive 4 free games for 3 scatters, and a full set of free spins for 4+ scatters. No limit exists on how many times you can trigger this bonus.
What Does Invaders Bring to the Megaways Niche?
Many Megaways slots feature a common mixture of cascading reels, win multipliers, and free spins. Additionally, the number of ways are simply determined at random.
Invaders Megaways doesn’t totally differ from the norm. It too has cascading reels and free spins. However, this game also separates itself from the average Megaways slot.

SG Digital, meanwhile, blazes its own trail entirely with this engine. Invaders Megaways brings a sense of originality with the Mythical Unicow and multiple free-spin modifiers. If you’re looking for something new from Megaways, then this game is it.
We must admit that the €250k win cap feels awkward with the Megaways engine. It’s also murky as to which bet sizes don’t qualify for the maximum win.
Other than these aspects, though, Invaders Megaways is definitely a worthwhile slot. This is especially true if you’re searching for more from Megaways.
